Proposing a wildlife plan working only with FWC, including a memo on duck killing, indicates that Palmetto Bay remains determined to kill wildlife despite clear resident opposition. Humane alternatives have been presented. The Village is destroying our designation as a bird sanctuary, and we will soon be a target of derision for unnecessary cruelty. Listen to residents. Commit to humane, non-lethal management only. Thanks to Patrick Fiore for trying to address this for Village residents.
Based upon my communications with Humane Wildlife Consulting, Wildlife Whisperer and Animal Rights Foundation
Florida there was no consensus regarding the proposed plan. None of these organizations support removal of nuisance wildlife as discussed in the plan. FWC's mission does not include "humane wildlife management plans". They are primarily a hunting, trapping and fishing regulatory agency. Proposing partnering with FWC is an affront to every resident who opposes killing healthy animals.
I strongly urge the Palmetto Bay Council members to vote NO on this agenda item 13. C I am against the serial killing of wildlife in our Village. I respectfully ask the Council to incorporate the proposals previously made by residents for humane treatment of wildlife and should re-consider the amendment proposed by Councilman Patrick Fiore in a previous Council meeting.
I moved to Palmetto Bay prior to incorporation. Wildlife in Palmetto Bay has always existed and will continue to exist in our community. The Village of Palmetto Bay should not be actively killing Muscovy ducks. The killing is shameful and embarrassing to our community. Why is the village so intent on sanitizing the community of wildlife? I respectfully ask the Council to vote NO to Agenda item 13.C, the proposed wildlife management plan and seek an alternative solution.
The administration appears to be set on forming their own plan with the FWC despite input from residents and organizations who actually champion humane treatment of wildlife.Councilman Fiore introduced an amendment at the last Council meeting that took into account what residents have been proposing and this amendment was voted down. The duck population at Coral Reef Park has been decimated and it is no longer the Wildlife Refuge it is supposed to be.TY Patrick Fiore & Marsha Matson for listening
I am deeply disappointed with The Village of Palmetto Bay for persisting with inhumane actions, despite the objections of numerous residents who strongly oppose the killing of wildlife in the area.
I feel very disappointed with The Village of Palmetto Bay, continuing with inhumane actions, despite the opposition of many residents and demonstrating their discontent with any killing of wildlife in Palmetto Bay.
I oppose any killing of wildlife in Palmetto Bay.
